I am happy to report that thanks to some much needed assistance from Crystal and Dane, Gaia was able to have the procedure she needed yesterday to address the abscess wound issue and she is on the mend. She is heavily medicated of course, and isolated from the family (as I think she prefers at the moment) for the next few days, but she is expected to make a full recovery. The wound has a drain in it to help alleviate pressure and drain the infection. The antibiotics are already making a huge difference and her fever has subsided. She came through the surgery and being anestitized just fine, the vet said she had no problems waking up and came through the entire procedure as well as can be expected. Gaia will have a big yucky wound for a while, but she's going to be ok.
I can't thank Crystal and Dane enough, as I keep telling them, thank you's only mean so much. Thanking them really doesn't express my gratitude. Gaia is safe and getting healthy now, which is a huge relief and for that, I am truly greatful to them for helping us out with this emergency situation.
I'm off now to wipe the drool from Gaia's cute little mouth, the pain medication makes her drool really bad. It's pretty humorous and now that Gaia is safe, I can kind of giggle at the big clown collar she's got around her neck and the drooling :)
